Although It May Be Passionate, First Time Sex Typically Occurs After Some Planning And Thought. Even Among Adolescents, Most Sexual Behavior Is Not Impulsive But Usually Involves Reasoned Action And Considerations About The Consequences. People Have Sex For Pleasure And For Procreation, But Also To Get Rid Of A Headache, To Celebrate A Special Occasion, To Get A Promotion, And To Feel Closer To God. After Asking Almost 2,000 College Students Why They Have (or would have) Sex, The Researchers Came Up With 237 Reasons That They Grouped Into Four Categories And They Found That Many Of The Reasons Were Gendered.

For Example Men Were More Likely To Use Sex To Gain Status Or Enhance Their Reputation, Whereas Women Were More Likely To Say That They Wanted To Express Their Love For A Person. Overall, The Researchers Concluded That Our Motives For Having Sex Are Complex.
